OFFICIAL RULES & REGULATIONS - ADF STREET STYLE BATTLE

FREESTYLE BATTLE BREAKDOWN

1. DIVISIONS

1.1 / 1 on 1 Popping / 1 on 1 Hip hop / 2 on 2 Bboying / Crew Battles.

1.2. Crew Number limit: 4 - 10 dancers

2. REGISTRATION FEES

2.1 Competitor Cost $15.00 (gst inc) entry fee per dancer (non refundable) to be paid at during registration (1pm@ Sydney Square).

2.2 Competitors failing to pay registration fees before or upon arrival of the preliminary event will be unable to perform.

3. ATTIRE

3.1. Comfortable street wear is highly recommended.

4. COMPETITION RULES

4.1 1st Round consists of 1 set each

4.2 Quarter Finals consists of 1 set each

4.3 Semi Finals Consist of 2 sets each

4.3 Finals consist of 2 sets each

5. JUDGING

5.1 Judges will be selected for preliminaries and finals at event management discretion

5.2 Judges will announce winner at the end of each battle (Excluding the finals)

SHOWCASE COMPETITION BREAKDOWN

1. DIVISIONS

1.1 The Showcase competition is an open to all ages.

1.2. Street Style Dance - incorporates street dance i.e HIp hop, Popping, Locking, krump, house and bboying.

1.3. A crew consists of between 5 - 20 dancers

2. REGISTRATION FEES

2.1 Competitor Cost $15.00 (gst inc) entry fee per dancer (non refundable) to be paid at during registration (1pm@ Sydney Square).

2.2Competitors failing to pay registration fees before or upon arrival of the preliminary event will be unable to perform.

3. FORMS AND COMPLETION OF FORMS

3.1. All names, age, addresses must be completed and submitted to be eligible to compete at the event by the date specified by event management. Dates are located on the event management's website.

3.2. Consent must be given for all competitors under 18 (May be a ticked Box on web form).

3.3. Failure to sign all relevant forms may result in crew disqualification.

3.4. A 'contact person' must be nominated at registration and is responsible for all communications and correspondence to be received on behalf of the competing crew. The event management will only deal with this single point of contact and will not be held responsible for any messages/communication not received by the competing crew (or their supervision) that they represent.

3.5. Changing the contact persons must be completed in writing - please contact event management if you require this change after registration. (Please see end of document for contact details)

3.6 The main form of communication to competitors will be via email- the event organisers will not be held responsible if registered email account is not checked. Communication will be sent according to our important dates as listed on the event organisers website. (Please see end of document for contact details)

4. ATTIRE

4.1. Comfortable street wear is highly recommended.

4.2. Props prohibited however will be limited to: hand held only (ie: hanky, hat and face paint).

4.3. All use of props must be approved by event management at least 14 days prior to the event.

4.4 Material that will cause the stage to become slippery or dangerous is strictly prohibited and points will be deducted.

5. COMPETITION RULES

5.1. Routine Length 2.00 min - 3.00 min

5.2 Performance order is determined by event organisers prior to event at the event organiser's discretion. (All important dates released via event management website)

5.3 Special Lighting Requirements

5.3.1. Special lighting requests may be given and use of lighting is subject to event management discretion.

5.4 Music Audio Format:

- (2x) audio CD format.

- (1x) track per CD.

- No Rewritable CDs to be used.

5.5 Music Submission Dates

5.5.1 CDs are to be submitted 1 week prior to the event. Please contact event management to arrange drop off or pick up of the music - contact information can be found at the end of this document.

5.6 Rehearsals

5.6.1 Rehearsal times will be released closer to the date on the event management's website.

6. JUDGING

6.1.1. Judges will be selected for preliminaries and finals at event management discretion

6.1.2. Each Judge will assess each of the crew on technical (Execution and Difficulty) and artistic (Creativity and Showmanship) merit.

6.1.3. One judge will be nominated as a Judiciary director as nominated by the judging panel (Attire, Music, Performance Violations).

6.2. Judging Criteria

6.2.1. Calculation: The final score for each performance will be calculated (using the Criteria and Scoring) out of 100 points. Each of the judges scores are added, and then divided by the number of judges to arrive at an initial score. The judiciary director(s) point deductions will then be deducted from the initial score to arrive at the final score.
6.2.2. Judging Criteria: Please refer to the table below for a breakdown of judging criteria

6.2.3. Scoring Criteria: Please refer to the table below for a breakdown of scoring criteria in points:

6.2.4. Deductions- Definitions: Deductions are calculated and deducted from final scores by the Judiciary director using the deductions list.
6.2.5 Deduction Categories: The following is a list of deductions which will affect final scoring:

Performance
- Props- Throwing items (clothing or other props) in crowd (-10)

Music
- Under or over time limits specified (-10)

Prohibited Moves
- Crude or offensive moves (-20)

Attire
- Inappropriate or offensive attire (-5)

6.3. Extraordinary circumstances

6.3.1. False starts- In the event of a false start, (which is out of control of the performing crew) the dance crews must stop their performance immediately for the judiciary director(s) will make a decision on the restart of performance. Management reserves the right to make any final decisions regarding false starts. No protests can be made regarding false starts after the crew has performed their routine.

6.4. Protests

6.4.1. Judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Critical Hype is proud to present the Australian Dance Festival's "Street Style Battle". The competition will take place at Sydney Square located between Sydney Town Hall and St Andrews Cathedral on Saturday 4th September 2010. Never before has there been a street dance competition located right in the heart of the city - the potential for public exposure will be absolutely huge! The aim of the ADF Street Style Challenge is to promote and expose the street dancers to the entire dance community both nationally and internationally.

The preliminaries will be taking place during the day, with divisions including; Popping battles, Bboy battles, hip hop battles, crew vs crew freestyle battles, and a choreography competition, with the finals taking place inside Town Hall for the finale of the first day of the Festival. More information will be announced with regards to judges, Mc's and special guests performances.

Our absolute aim is to expose the street dancers to the larger scale of audience and to incorporate the culture to the Australian Dance Festival.
