DANCE PROGRAM

In January 2010, Critical Hype and Youth Advisory Committee of the Fairfield City council introduced a dance development program to the local youth of the Fairfield City. The aim of the program was to provide opportunities for kids to learn and understand the importance of dance as an outlet for self-expression without violence, to open doors to alternative lifestyle; away from drugs and alcohol and to build self confidence in order to become the best person they can be. The program exposed and educated youth of the different styles of street dance including, break dance, krump, popping, and hip-hop.

The program was originally scheduled for 5 weeks, however due to the success of the program, with an average of 30 students per class, the council agreed to extend the program for another 3 weeks.

To ensure that the quality of the dance program was at the highest level every class, Critical Hype employed some of the best dancers in Australia teaching the fundamentals of their style of dance. Some if the dancers who have supported the program and taught classes includes 2010 “So You Think You Can Dance” top 20 Don Napalan, popping sensation, Popping Jack, Japanese hip hop dancers, Daisuke and Nao, bboy star Luke Mercado, international member of GStyle, Jfunk, along with up and coming krump masters, Mark “Shutdown” Manahan and Nocholas “Reech” Barnette-Moore and “So You Think You Can Dance” top 100, Jet Valencia.

To conclude the program, the students and the instructor, Mark Manahan, performed live at the Bring It On Youth Festival, in front of the Mayor of Fairfield, Nick Lalich.
