BIO
Dance is just one facet of the entertainment industry. With dancers striving to secure the particular contract of their dreams, a unique personality is deemed essential in order to stand out within a crowd. Joel de Carteret aka JD is no exception. With a quirky and spontaneous approach to movement, JD is in a new breed of entertainer, a league of his own. A personality who is not only passionate about music and the arts, but has greater ambitions as a pioneer who inspires a new legion of dancers to follow in his footsteps… On first glance it may be easy to assume that JD is an overnight success story. However with a long list of credits too long to mention, it has been a lifetime of passion and determination that has enabled this entertainer to establish a sense of identity within the wider dance community. With a focus on creating his own authentic style of movement, JD not only succeeded to eleventh position within So You Think You Can Dance Australia, but has been reigned as “the Gene Kelly of Hip Hop” by judge and industry professional Jason Coleman.. JD continues his role as ambassador for the next generation through his regular classes and workshops in Melbourne and around the globe.. His personality on camera demonstrates creativity and the ability to reinvent his image according to the project or task at hand. With a difficult upbringing as an adopted child in the Philippines, JD realises that great opportunities are hard to come by and has therefore already made a name for himself both on stage and behind the camera. What sets JD apart from other industry professionals is his ability to identify arising opportunities he is passionate about, and pursue these with sheer determination. As an all-round creative guy with his own sense of individualism, JD can add several titles to his name including choreographer, performer, teacher, ambassador and in my opinion pure genius! With a career to date that has seen JD travel from Asia to the United States collaborating with internationally renowned dance professionals, JD is a familiar face with the Qantas in-house crew! Breaking in to the world of television as a celebrity choreographer and presenter for a wide array of productions, JD is not one to look out for, but rather one that was discovered many years ago…
